About APEX
APEX is an intensive, highly selective piano program for ambitious pre-college pianists, ages 12-18, who are ready to take their artistry to the next level. Limited to just 15 students, APEX offers an exceptional level of individual attention and a comprehensive experience designed to prepare pianists for demanding college auditions, competitions, and future performance opportunities at the national and international level.
Set on the beautiful campus of Nazareth University in Pittsford, New York, APEX brings together outstanding young pianists and distinguished faculty for an immersive week of study, performance, and artistic development. Each student receives daily private lessons, masterclasses, and open lessons, along with dedicated individual practice rooms. All performances take place on Steinway concert grand pianos, providing students with an authentic concert experience in a professional setting.
Beyond individual instruction, APEX addresses the skills essential to building a successful and sustainable career as a pianist. Students participate in practical seminars such as “Preparing for College Auditions and Competitions” and “Performing Under Pressure: Navigating Performance Anxiety in Pianists,” giving them valuable tools for both the musical and professional demands of the field.
Every student is eligible to participate in the APEX Competition, with competition fees included in tuition. Students also receive a professional headshot and a professional video recording of their final performance, creating meaningful professional materials they can take with them beyond the program.
